One of the most fascinating type of animals that reside within fantasy worlds is that of the bird. It comes in many shapes, some large and small, and each one of them brings something to the table that the others don’t. Though there are many kinds of birds, none of them are as powerful as that of the mythical phoenix.
The paramount reason why the phoenix is powerful is because it is a rare bird. In fact, it is one of the rarest, meaning if someone happens to see one out in the wild, that person will remember seeing it for the rest of his life. This bird only reveals itself to those it deems worthy since it can see things many others don’t.
Being in the presence of the mythical phoenix is a sight to behold. A sort of power radiates from it and covers the atmosphere with a sense of serenity. You cannot help but feel calm and at peace around it. If it trusts you or deems you a good person, it will let you pet it, and only a few people in the world have been fortunate enough to see one, let alone pet it.
The phoenix is a force to be reckoned with pertaining to worldbuilding. It possesses great healing powers that far outstrip many conventional methods. For example, its tears can instantly make any sore or wound fade instantly. It also excels in battle, using its mighty beak to inflict damage on its enemies, namely those of the serpentine variety.

People are more likely to see common creatures such as the ant since they appear in many environments and are far more numerous than some certain others. Depending on the world, these rarer animals can be on par with the others in terms of numbers. Not so with the phoenix which is one of the most rare birds to appear, regardless of the world it dwells in.
The rareness of the mythical phoenix is precisely why it is one of the most powerful birds. Because of the great power simmering within it, it keeps itself well hidden from prying eyes. This is due to the face that it has an astute perception of humanity and instinctively recognizes that there are those who would attempt to exploit its wondrous powers for greed or other sinister purposes.
The phoenix is exceptionally talented when it comes to judging people, notably those that are fortunate enough to come across one. It keenly pierces their flesh, looking past all their garments and makeup to see who they are at heart. If it deems one a good person, it is more likely to move closer and permit him to pet it. If it deems someone a bad person, it will either flee to protect itself or savagely attack that person.
The mythical phoenix is so rare that should one be lucky enough to lay eyes upon one, it will be a memory he will cherish for the rest of his life. He can choose to tell other people though those who have wisdom will deign to keep mum, knowing perfectly well what mankind is capable of, in order to protect it. Doing the latter raises the chance that he can forge a lasting friendship with the phoenix who will come to see him periodically though it’ll only do so when it believes it is safe, otherwise he will have to go visit it and make sure nobody is following him.
The bird has an uncanny knack of knowing exactly how to help people when its help is needed. It’ll flap its wings to glide towards someone who’s stuck on a mountain cliff, lost in a forest, or stranded in the middle of nowhere and extend a talon or two to help pull him to safety. Having been given a second chance at life, the person thanks the phoenix before it flies off and who knows if the two will ever cross paths again.
The phoenix possesses a spate of stellar powers that no other animal has which only makes it even more intriguing. However, it uses them sparingly and only when they are absolutely needed. This is by design since it knows there are those who would take advantage of what it has.
The greatest power the mythical phoenix has is how it makes the people around it feel. It emits sereneness in the air, making them feel at ease, as if calm. You see this repeatedly throughout the Harry Potter series when the young protagonist sits in Dumbledore’s office and sees Fawkes the phoenix who makes him feel calm. The calmness enables people to be able to make logical decisions, not those based on emotion that can come back to bite them later on.
The calmness the bird generates helps people forget their troubles, at least temporarily. It also enables them to convey traumatic events while maintaining a cool and collected composure as seen in towards the end of Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets where Harry fills Dumbledore in on what happened in said chamber from beginning to end.
Besides the ability to put people at ease, the phoenix has the power to heal. It will only use this particular power to heal a person it deems good since it only trusts those who are good at heart. It flies over to the wounded person and sheds a tear which falls onto the wound and makes it vanish, leaving but a scar.
Interestingly enough, the mythical phoenix is one of a select few creatures who are an astute judge of character. Due to how rare it is, it only permits those of an extraordinary nature to see it in person since it observes people from afar, determining whether they are good or not. Should it deem someone worthy enough, it will either approach him or vice-versa.
Of all of the incredible creatures of the genre, the phoenix has a lot going for it in regard to worldbuilding. In fact, due to how rare it is, it is one of the most important since it does things no other can. What makes this lovely bird so fascinating is what it does is entirely dependent on the person it is interacting with which is something you don’t see with a lot of other animals.
The mythical phoenix is known for its deep loyalty. Once it has determined whether a person is good, it will open up to said person. It lets him pet it, talk to it, and when the need arises, it will come to his aid and give him the tool he needs to get out of whatever situation he is in at that moment.
What sets the phoenix apart from the other creatures of the genre is that it possesses the ability to rebirth itself. It bursts down in a spectacular flame and from its ashes rises a baby bird. It does this periodically and when it does, it is a sight to behold. The reasons why it does this vary from world, some are for survival purposes and other reasons such as to clear itself of whatever disease or maladies its suffering from.
The mythical phoenix is a force to be reckoned with when it comes to battle. It has a mortal enemy, the basilisk, though serpents are its primary foes. It flies around its opponent with remarkable agility and when it pecks it, it pierces the skin so deeply that blood gushes out. It deliberately remains out of its foe’s reach in order to hit it and retreat and allow it to weaken over time.
Of all the ways the phoenix contributes to the world, none are as important as its healing powers. Only after deeming someone good will it fly towards the wounded person and rest its head upon his head. The tears that emerge can heal even the most stubborn sore but that isn’t the only healing power it possesses. It also gives its allies renewed vitality which can spell the difference between victory and defeat.
In short, the mythical phoenix is nothing short of an amazing animal. It is one of the most beautiful and loyal creatures. The phoenix is considered a stalwart force of good and uses its powers to stymie the forces of darkness. In the stories it appears in, it is a graceful creature and performs incredible actions that take people by surprise. You’d be remiss not to include the phoenix in both your world and story!
