Overview

Every character that appears in the story serves a role in the world, far more than what is seen within it. While the king is known for the power that he wields, his wife, the fantasy queen, is viewed in a different light, at least in many works across the genre. In the majority of works that she appears in, she is known far and wide for her beauty and kindness.

Her kind-hearted nature is precisely why the queen is popular all over the kingdom. She is effortlessly polite and genial to all who she meets and she always dresses immaculately, no matter the occasion. When it comes to the social dimension of the royalty, she reigns supreme in that department.

However, the fantasy queen isn’t just a pretty face. She possesses a great intellect and cunning in outmaneuvering her rivals and opponents, especially those who aren’t necessarily friendly to her husband. She is a fierce advocate of the king and will work tirelessly to ensure that he gets what he wants.

In the context of the world, the queen is a key player, though not to the extent of her husband. She is able to use grand events such as the royal feast to her advantage by schmoozing foreign dignitaries and winning all kinds of people over through her devastating charm. The queen is not one to be taken lightly.

This is the second article of the series exploring the various characters. If you want to see what other articles we have, there’s scads more, all on our blog page. It shouldn’t take you long to come across one that piques your interest!

The Fantasy Queen: A Beloved Figure in the Realm

The fantasy genre features many queens who have become iconic figures outright from Cersei to the Evil Queen. Though some of them are known for their Machiavellian nature, the vast majority of the women who were queens also possessed magnificent beauty that drew attention from everyone.

Her beauty alone isn’t why the fantasy queen is considered one of the most beloved figures of the realm. It is because of her earnest kindness and steadfast sincerity in lending a helping hand to the downtrodden that she has earned the people’s love. She goes places no other royal would dare step foot in, from visiting orphanages full of poor children to soup kitchens where she doles out a generous helping of food to feed the starving.

Fantasy cities are important in the genre. This image depicts a city with a castle on a hilltop above it. The city has both rectangular- and square-shaped buildings with a wavy roof on each one. The buildings come in four colors: light yellow, brown, light blue, and white. The roofs come in the following colors: dark blue, red, light black, and dark brown. Many of these buildings have windows and some have a visible door. The road itself runs down the middle of the image, swaying to the right and then the left, ending at the doorstep of the castle. The road also meets two others, one that runs to the left, and the other to the right. Behind the city is a grassy field with blades of grass scattered throughout. A river cuts through the field, meandering from the left edge to the right edge of the image. The castle itself is white with gray shadows. It has four red turrets and diamond-shaped windows. The sky above is a bright blue with two white clouds. Some birds are flying on the left side, above the castle, and the right side. It also features a fantasy marketplace.

The typical queen uses her power as the leading lady of the kingdom to raise funds for the various charities she supports. She is able to cajole even the most haughty noble to generously donate money using her feminine wiles and remarkable powers of persuasion. The money she raises goes a long way in providing food and clothes for the poor and malnourished and wins her the adulteration of a great number of people.

The queen is a powerhouse in her own right when it comes to social niceties. She regularly hosts galas, feasts, and other important events and somehow always finds just the perfect dress or gown to wear for the event. Everything she does here serves a twofold purpose: one to showcase the magnificence of the ruling family, notably that of her husband and two to highlight the power she wields herself.

Many queens become fashion icons in the realms they dwell in since they wear all kinds of extravagant dresses that many women dream of wearing. Whatever they’re wearing becomes the new trend as clothes shops and tailors scurry to mimic them so that they can sell them in their shops. They do this because they know their female customers will eagerly fork over their hard-earned money for the chance to wear something like the queen does.

How the Fantasy Queen Wields Power

Even though the fantasy queen might be adorned by the masses, what they don’t realize is that every move she makes is calculated. Yes, she does indeed care about their well-being, after all, she views them as her children and she feels compelled to do as much as she can for them, but she is also practical. She is well cognizant that a woman of her stature cannot be seen as a lightweight or a pushover, especially when it affects the ruling family.

The grand social events she hosts throughout the year serves several purposes that only she knows. Firstly, she observes quietly how the nobles and other important guests there feel about the state of the realm plus the going-ons in the world. She learns a great deal about how people perceive her husband and the information she obtains in these events enable her to piece together a plan to boost his standing among the nobility.

A bunch of flying red question marks in light gray clouds with wings. The question marks are flying high up in the skies as seen with the blue sky and white clouds. They represent the various types of fantasy occupations.

Secondly, she works to stymie the rise of those who seek to supplant her as queen. She displays great tact here, effortlessly dispelling all would-be rivals by emphasizing her close relationship with the king and nonchalantly sowing seeds of doubt within the nobles regarding them. The fantasy queen interacts with as many guests as she can where she makes seemingly offhanded remarks about their shortcomings and how they would be best served elsewhere.

When it comes to her husband, the queen shines all the more bright. Knowing that her legacy is tied to that of her husband, she works tirelessly to ensure that he goes down as a great king which will also bode well for her. She uses everything she has at her disposal to persuade even the most recalcitrant noble to support him, knowing that such support goes a long way in easing whatever concerns some people may harbor for the king.

During times of turmoil like war, the fantasy queen strives to be an unifying force, seeking to keep people loyal to the king. She assures them that her husband is doing everything he can and to keep their faith in him. When called upon, she provides sage counsel, aware that the outcome will dictate how they are viewed.

The Significance of the Fantasy Queen to the World

On the world stage, the queen wields great power, thought not as much as that of the king. Nevertheless, she uses the ones she has to great effect and nowhere is this more evident when interacting with foreign leaders and other dignitaries. This applies in many ways from official and unofficial state functions both inside and abroad.

Even before these events take place, the queen plans out the outfit she will wear. The dress she wears is of strategic importance for her since it will subtlety influence how she is perceived by everyone before even one word is spoken to her. The queen uses this to her advantage to draw attention to both herself and the king, making people want to come over to talk to them.

This fantasy harbor has brown buildings with red roofs on each side of a body of water that goes out to the ocean. In the distance is a tall, light blue tower-like object. Above it is the orange sky with white clouds.

Her chief purpose regarding the world is to help advance the king’s interests and she does so in a number of ways. She is his closest and most loyal ally which means she will pull out all the stops in order to help him pursue his aims. This means cozying up to foreign diplomats with the goal of persuading them to help her husband.

The fantasy queen relies on her great beauty and great powers of persuasion to sway or pull over those who are wavering in their support of the king. She compliments them on their appearance, even if she is not sincere in said compliments, and seeks to find things they have in common and then use that to build rapport with the aims of forging lasting friendships. The relationships she cultivates with them builds support for her husband which may prove instrumental down the road.

In some cases, the queen dispatches her aides to try to find information on them. The info she obtains she uses to hold over them to ensure that they do her husband’s bidding, especially when it comes to making consequential decisions that will shape the future of the world like forging alliances in times of war. She only uses that information when she’s tried everything else, only for them to fail.

Tying it all Together

In short, the fantasy queen is a force to be reckoned with. Everything she does is to advance her husband’s agenda because she knows that her legacy will be tied to that of his. She wants to be remembered well in history and she pursues a number of endeavors to achieve that.

The queen is one of the most popular figures in the realm. It is because she goes out of her way to tend to the people, going to places that help feed them and organizing charity events to raise money and food for them. She is able to persuade many nobles to willingly part with their money to help the poor using her considerable charming powers.

Unbeknownst to many people, every move the queen makes is calculated. She does so with the purpose of helping the king, from hosting ceremonial events to whoever she interacts with. Her measured moves help brush aside other women vying to replace her at his side as well as keep people in her husband’s camp, minimizing the risk of the royal family being ousted from power in tumultuous times.

On the world stage, the fantasy queen is well versed in the niceties of diplomacy. She uses everything at her disposal, right down to wearing the right outfit, to help the king get what he wants. She is able to converse with just about everyone and find things they have in common in order to use that to create friendships that will prove useful to her and her husband down the road.
