The Glorious Beauty of the Rare Fantasy Unicorn

No matter where a brave traveler might go as he explores a fantasy world, he’ll cross paths with all kinds of animals, some benevolent, others not. Some will flee whereas others will charge at him. There are a select few that are so rare that seeing one in person is said to bring the viewer good luck and one of these animals is the fantasy unicorn.
Though it might look just like a horse, the unicorn is a most special animal. Besides its horn which sits atop its face, it emanates a power that captivates all those fortunate enough to cross paths with it. It is a wondrous creature that boasts a great deal of power and is said to only serve the forces of good.
Due to how rare it is, the fantasy unicorn only appears in few environments. If one wishes to find such a mythical creature, he’ll have to do his research and carry supplies with him. Even if he’s in the right place, there’s no certainty he’ll see it which means he’ll have to wait until it shows up which could be soon or he’ll be there for a good while.
In the context of worldbuilding, the unicorn, despite its rarity, is pivotal. While it isn’t typically active in the events of the world, it plays an indirect role that helps make civilized life possible. For instance, its hair is used in a variety of things from wands to potions and the ones that feature it are markedly more powerful than many of its counterparts. Besides that, it will fight the servants of evil, most notably those that dare enter its territory.

The Radiance of the Fantasy Unicorn
At first glance or from afar, the unicorn appears to be essentially just another type of horse. It has a mane, snout, four legs and a swishing tail. However, should one get closer to it without it running away, he’ll soon see that it is anything but a horse and it’ll be apparent when he sees the horn at top of its face.
The fantasy unicorn epitomizes beauty as exemplified by its radiant appearance. It emits an aura that mesmerizes all those lucky enough to see it and it moves ever so elegantly. It is a most regal creature and when it detects a stranger in its midst, it stares at him, as if mentally evaluating him to determine whether he is trustworthy or not.
The unicorn has an uncanny knack of perceiving who people are at their heart which is one of its greatest powers. If it deems someone bad or evil, it will either flee or fight to repel the intruder. For those it believes to be good or kind-hearted, it will permit them to approach it as if giving them a chance. This majestic creature take a while to trust someone but when it does, it is loyal through and through.
In many of the stories it appears in, the fantasy unicorn boasts an impressive array of powers. In some realms, it is capable of flight despite the fact it has no wings. Whether it can fly or not, it moves at a speed that would astound many people, which comes in handy when it detects danger and chooses to flee. In an instant, it’ll disappear, leaving nothing but dust in its wake.
The unicorn is said to represent innocence. This is precisely the reason why children are more likely to see it since they are innocent by nature and have yet to discover the harsh realities of the world. Additionally, children still have that spark of imagination and wonder, meaning they still believe that such a mythical animal exists, that many adults have lost due to circumstances beyond their control.
Where the Fantasy Unicorn Typically Lives
Not surprisingly, due to its rareness, the unicorn only calls a few places in the world home. This makes it one of the most difficult animals to find since it is few in numbers and there’s no guarantee someone will stumble upon one even if he is in the right place. This lovely animal doesn’t remain in one place long enough, even if it is comfortable since it’s aware that there are insidious forces that are out to destroy it.
Of the few places where the fantasy unicorn can be found, the forest is number one on the list. It offers everything it needs for survival, what with the streams that flow through it and the ample grass that grows virtually everywhere. Additionally, it also features a great deal of spots it can hide out in should it sense danger.
Besides the forest, the unicorn also likes to spend time near bodies of water, namely rivers and lakes. Being close to water helps ensure that it remains alive since all living beings depend on water to survive. It’s even better if these bodies of water are in close proximity to wooded areas since it also likes trees.
Knowing that there are dark forces in the world that seek its destruction or will attempt to use it for their twisted goals, the unicorn will stay in areas that have a strong connection to the light. Places such as holy sites found way out of urban centers are excellent spots to find one, provided they haven’t been ravaged by the servants of evil.
The countryside is considered to be more in tune with the natural order of things which means the fantasy unicorn will be found in one or more parts of it. It likes to roam the plains freely, going from one location to another and should someone see it, it’ll be gone before he knows it since it moves so fast.
How the Fantasy Unicorn Fits in the World
The unicorn has an interesting role to play in the grand scheme of things. It is one of these animals wholly devoted to light which is why you never see any that serve the dark side. It is a pure, innocent animal said to epitomize what is good in the world.
Most of the time, the fantasy unicorn remains in the background and shapes the world in indirect ways. For example, apothecarists brew potions using materials they collect from this majestic animal to help ailing people recover. Things like the hair or nails from their hooves are used in a great deal of potions but only after the animal has determined that the apothecarist is not a threat and has a sincere desire to help people.
In tumultuous times, the unicorn takes more of an active role, especially since it detects the coming darkness and will do what it can to prevent it from taking over the world. Considered an emissary of light, this four-legged creature will leave the safety of its sanctuary and seek out the leaders of the good side to offer its aid. In this vein, it will act as a messenger and divulge information that could prove pivotal. Said info ranges from what it hears from other animals to knowing which animals to trust and those who serve a different master.
Its warm aura envelops all those around it, imbuing them with newfound strength. This comes in handy at times when morale is at an all-time low or right before a great battle against the minions of darkness. Though it doesn’t like battle, it will willingly enter the fray but only if there is no other recourse.
To summarize, the fantasy unicorn is one of the best animals of the genre. It is an exceptionally rare creature that has a profound affinity with the light which is why it is a target for the other side. This graceful beast is an excellent addition to both your world and story, even if you have it appear as a minor character in the latter since it has a greater impact in the former!
