Making it Three Years: An Amazing Feat for Viernor

Three Years of Success from an Idea

It’s wild to believe that three years have already gone by since the day the website went live. How time flies by! It started with an idea to help people who wanted to build their own world but were unsure where to start since doing so can be time-consuming but fun at the same time!

The entire premise of Viernor is to serve as a place that breaks down all the different aspects of worldbuilding into smaller, more digestible pieces. There’s so much to do that it can feel overwhelming at times. For instance, besides developing the names of the places and realms of the world, you have to flesh out the cultures of the people who dwell there, their traditions, and so on.

For the last three years, people from all over the world have come to check out our many fantastic articles, the nine most recent on the home page and older ones on the blog page. On these two pages are sterling articles that focus on just one part of constructing an imaginary world, whether it be the lore or making a magical system. The best part is you can read them at your leisure so take your time perusing them!

While it’s true that you are never wholly done working on your fictional world since there’s always something to do or if there’s something in particular you want to fix, we believe creating your dream fantasy world ought to be something you enjoy doing. That’s why our articles are structured in a way that you learn something that you can then apply to your own world and story without getting that feeling of being overwhelmed at the number of things to do.

We believe that creating your imaginary world ought to be fun, not feel like work. There’s nothing better than seeing your creation come to fruition, whether it’s set in medieval times or in a futuristic society and your characters feeling like real people with their aspirations and fears.

Viernor at Three Years

At this important milestone, we’re taking some time to look at where the website stands at the moment. It’s always useful to take stock at such a moment to look back and see how things have changed since the day it went live three years ago. We consider ourselves lucky that it’s lasted as long as it did since many people who create their own website don’t usually make it this long.

One aspect we take great pride in is our numerous articles. There is a bevy of topics of worldbuilding that have been explored from the types of characters to governments, all found on our blog page. We hope that they continue to be of use to you and your fellow fantasy creators who are interested in starting up their own world but have no idea where to start.

One of the best things of the last three years of Viernor is the creation of the Beginner’s Guide page. It’s a must for those who are interested but have little to no idea on how to start since it covers all the basics of worldbuilding. It’s very helpful and chock full of information that will prove handy for you!

Alongside our great ever-growing articles is the artwork that appears in each one of them. They are all pixel art, a medium that transcends time, and many of them showcase an element of fantasy such as a castle or magic. They show just a small part of what is possible when it comes to fantasy.

You might have noticed there’s a new series that recently launched on the website. The Sunlit Hearth, as it’s called, is different than all of our other articles. It explores ideas like realism in fantasy and how they affect worldbuilding. There’s a lot of factors that influence how people approach developing the imaginary world they’ve dreamed of and we wanted to examine them since they are part of worldbuilding which means they will affect how you do yours!

The Future of the Website

You might be wondering now that it’s been three years, what does the future hold for Viernor? While the future is always uncertain, you don’t need to worry about the website going anywhere soon. This means you have even more articles to look forward!

Our articles will continue and we’ll keep exploring all the various components of worldbuilding. In fact, we have a brand new series that is set to premiere soon so keep you eyes out for when they start. The Sunlit Hearth series will continue for the foreseeable future since it showcases a different side of building a world, things you might not necessarily take into account when it comes time for you to do so.

Don’t worry, the pixel-style artwork will continue. After three years, it is considered an integral part of the website, considering it’s plastered all over Viernor and scattered throughout our myriad articles. We take great pride in creating these great pieces and look forward to adding to our ever-growing number of created artwork.

Viernor is in a great position at the moment but that doesn’t mean we can rest on our laurels. Hard work is what enabled us to last three years and hard work is what will keep us going in the future. As long as fantasy remains popular — which we believe it will — there’ll always be something for us to discuss about the genre and worldbuilding itself.

And finally, we want to thank you, our loyal readers, for enjoying the articles we wrote over the last three years. We recognize that you could have spent time elsewhere but you chose to come to our website and we appreciate that from the bottom of our hearts. We want to give you plenty of reasons to keep coming back so that you can learn more about worldbuilding in order to bring to life the dream world you’ve always thought about but were hesitant to start!

Thanks for reading this and until the next time,
